Costco Chocolate Chip Cookies
Costco cookies are chewy, chocolatey, and delicious – it’s no wonder they’re a fan favorite! These homemade chocolate chip cookies are easy to make and are sure to be a hit!

Costco Cookies Recipe
To make this chocolate chip cookie Costco copycat, I used the ingredient list on the actual Costco cookie package. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that these cookies taste just like the popular bakery treats! Just be warned – when you make these, your family will likely ask you where you put the Kirkland package.
Okay, I’m kidding. But really, this chocolate chip cookie recipe is the best because you don’t have to set foot in the warehouse. Now you won’t fall prey to buying 200 paper towel rolls every time you crave those delicious Costco cookies because you can easily make them from home.

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Salted Butter – If you only have unsalted butter, add an extra pinch of salt to the dough.
- Brown Sugar – We use more brown sugar than granulated to keep these cookies nice and chewy.
- Granulated Sugar
- Egg
- Corn Syrup – There is A LOT of corn syrup in this recipe to make them deliciously chewy.
- Molasses – Adding a tiny bit of molasses gives the cookies a beautiful color and adds extra flavor.
- All Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Baking Soda– this actually helps the cookies spread and brown slightly while baking.
- Chocolate Chunks – I get my chocolate chunks at Walmart because it’s the only store local to me that sells them! I buy the Tollhouse brand and they match the Costco cookie chunks perfectly.

How to Make Costco Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Start by preheating your oven to 350°F.
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a silicon mat or a sheet of parchment paper, then set aside. This is important for these cookies, because they will otherwise stick to the cookie sheet.
- Using either a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer, cream together the butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until light in color and fluffy in texture. (Approximately 2-3 minutes).
- Scrape the sides of the bowl and add in the egg, corn syrup and molasses. Mix until well combined.
- Next, add in the dry ingredients: flour, salt and baking soda. Mix until a sticky dough forms. Emphasize on the sticky! This will not feel like your normal cookie dough because of all of that corn syrup.
- Finally, stir in the chocolate chunks until fully incorporated. Be sure not to overmix.
- Portion out your dough into 3 tbsp portions using a cookie scoop (#24) or your hands. Shape the dough into a ball and arrange them on your cookie sheet.
- Bake your cookie dough at 350° F for 9-11 minutes. You will know the cookies are done when they start to spread and the edges begin to turn golden brown.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
- To get the soft edge that Costco cookies are known for, store the cookies in an airtight container overnight. This waiting period helps the edges to soften. If you can’t wait and need to eat them right out of the oven, the edges will be a little buttery and crisp.

Can I freeze Costco’s Cookies?
Yes! Freeze the cookies in a single layer on a cookie sheet for 1 hour. At that point you can gather and stack your frozen cookies and place them into an airtight container and freeze them for up to 3 months.
My cookies spread too much – How can I fix that?
If your first batch of cookies spread more than you’d like, all you need to do is add about 1/4 cup more flour to your cookie dough. Differences in climate and elevation can make cookies spread more in some places than others.

Love these
I can’t find Nestle’s Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chunks anywhere. Have you purchased them recently?
I have only been able to find them at my local Walmart!
So yummy
Hello. please forgive me if my question sounds dumb. Are the chocolate chunks semi-sweet chocolate? TIA
Martha
Yes, they are!
Do we soften butter or put it in cold?
The butter should be softened.
I love this recipe and my family does too. I particularly like how they stay soft for so much longer than most typical chocolate chip cookie recipes. I want to make a chocolate chocolate chip cookie version based on this with chocolate dough. How much cocoa powder would you add or sub for flour, and would you make any other changes? Thanks!
So glad you love this recipe! If you’re looking for a soft chocolate base (that actually stays soft!) I recommend using this base and omitting the caramel in favor of chocolate chips: https://cookiesfordays.com/chocolate-caramel-cookies/.
question! can you omit the corn syrup for a slightly less sweet, but equally chewy cookie? or will omitting the syrup change the texture of the cookies? thanks so much!
Hi Kelly, the corn syrup helps create the chewy texture of these cookies. Omitting will definitely change the texture of the cookie. However, I have other chocolate chip cookies on my site that are chewy without corn syrup – like these: https://cookiesfordays.com/chocolate-chip-cookie-recipe/
Would Honey work as a substitute
I haven’t tried it, but it should work. It may change the flavor or texture or the cookie slightly, but it will still be yummy!
Surprisingly, the corn syrup doesn’t make it sweeter than a regular chocolate chip cookie. I live in Los Angeles and I had to cook them at 375 for ~16 minutes. I also added one egg at a time (mixing in between) as per my usual tollhouse chocolate chip cookie instructions. They didn’t end up being huge cookies like Costco does, but they do taste pretty similar, you just have to get the cooking time down to make sure they are chewy and simultaneously a little crunchy on the edges. I also added a sprinkle or two of Cayenne pepper because I’m a little wild lol
Love the recipe; it’s delicious! I do have a question: Could I substitute coconut oil instead of butter?
I have never tried it! You can give it a go, but it will make the cookies crispier because coconut oil doesn’t have as much moisture as butter.
